Gympie

Gympie to Cairns

We were in Gympie for 4 weeks fruit packing persimmons.
The people at work were really nice and it wasn’t too hard work just a bit tiring. Gympie is a small town and there’s not really that much to do so we haven’t been out at all. Just shopping at the Centro Gympie which we frequented, including a supermarket, book shop, game shop, BIG W (like KMART) and a few clothes shops. Its been quite handy though as we haven’t spent much money.
Sunday 22nd April was our last day, finally, and we were off on our way up to Cairns, stopping off at Rockhampton, Airlie Beach to see The Whitsundays, Townsville, Mission Beach and then Cairns.
We stayed at a lovely park in Airlie Beach. It had a 32foot swimming pool & Jacuzzi and sun loungers.
From here we booked a day trip to The Whitsundays.
We boarded the catamaran and took a slow 2 hour sail to Hayman Island, and to Blue Pearl Bay. The journey was relaxed and the scenery beautiful.
Cheesy then went down to do his dive and the rest of us were dropped at the beach to do some snorkelling. I haven’t done any snorkelling before and was a little apprehensive, well, scared basically, but had a couple of tries. I didn’t go out too far and came back to the beach after being freaked out by some fish.
Cheesy finished his dive and persuaded me to go out with him. I really enjoyed it, swimming around really fast with my flippers on, and breathing underwater (its odd when you do it for the first time) with my snorkel mask.
After lunch we sunbathed on the deck of the boat and relaxed for the journey back. What a fantastic day!
We then drove to Townsville for one night and also Mission Beach for one night.
We arrived in Cairns, the temperature rising a few more degrees. By 11 am it was 35C.
We found our accommodation and excitedly drove down the little pathways towards cabin number 144. Past 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th avenues, then the cabins started to look a bit old, then 7th avenue, then finally 8th avenue in the resort and there was our little cabin.
WOW!!! Its amazing! Nothing shabby about it at all, its brand new! After living in a campervan for so long, this tiny cabin is huge for us. The perks are also air con, a TV and DVD player a double bed, sink, fridge, hob, kettle and toaster!!!! Having a cold fridge is so nice, you have no idea!! me wearing a weird hat in our cabin!

We have emptied the van now and have cleaned it out!!
Hope you all enjoyed it,
Love Shannon x xx

Hi Non,
Figured out why I couldn't post blogs: Mark or I had blocked the site. It's so exciting being in Thailand now. The culture must be so different. I want to laze about on a gorgeous island... Enjoy what time you have left. Can't wait to see you again xxxxxx
