Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!

This year we spent Christmas day on the beach with people from the hostel, sunbathing and having a BBQ. It was 37 degrees, the water was cool, the sun shining and the beer flowing.

On Christmas Eve we had a roast dinner after sliding down the fireman’s pole into the restaurant next door to the hostel. Between about 80 of us there were 2020 cans of VB to drink, and they lasted until the 27th!!

It was a good blast.

New Years Eve we went out to a local pub called The Norfolk.

Before all the excitement we went to the Ashes on 14th December 06. It was a good day, really hot and sunny and we were really near the front too.

It was also Chris’s birthday on the 11th and although we both had to work, I made lasagna, under instruction from Faith, and got him a few presents. I upgraded his hat to an ashes one as he didn’t quite like the cheap one I got him! Ha ha.

Apart from all this we have both been working at the South Beach Café down at the beach in Freo. It was good fun and the people there were all really friendly. We got to go to their Christmas party too.
Unfortunately this time was cut short as we are heading towards Melbourne on the 8th Jan 07. We are going to see Tenacious D and also going to the Big Day Out there. (We’ll see The Killers, Muse, Jet and loads of other bands) Should be really fun.

We visited the south again to see a few more things while his bro was here, and came across the blowholes and a natural bridge.

I have just finished reading all the Harry Potter books, so I’m back in the real world again now. Its rubbish. Nah, just kidding!!!

We have just driven our way across the Nullarbor, which is a lonely road between The West and South of Australia. It comes from bad latin “no trees” (nullas arbor). The aborigines called it Oondiri which means Waterless, as there is practically no water there.
It’s not as bad as people make out. There is a petrol station at least every 200km with a roadhouse to stay the night. We have had to put our clocks 45 minutes ahead when we passed the central Aussie border. We had to put it a further 45 minutes fast after passing thru the WA/SA border. One of the petrol stations was $1.64 a litre instead of the usual $1.09-$1.45. Rip offs.

We have brought a guy from the hostel with us called Trevor. He’s enjoying sleeping in the tent and having a few beers with us in the evening.
We hope to get to Melbourne in the next few so we can go to our Tenacious D concert.

The van started to backfire on the way to Adelaide so we’ve stopped at a place called Port Wakefield an hour away. A mechanic replaced our filters or something this morning, and now we’re in Adelaide!! Its an absolutely roasting day, 40 degrees.

We’ll probably stay in the Melbourne area for a month or so and get some more work.
