We've done some of the sight seeing things in Fremantle. We went to the prison where the first convicts from England came. They actually built the prison! We did two tours one was called Doing Time, the other Great Escapes.
The first one was just looking around, showing us where the convicts went in, had to strip naked and get a scrub down. Then we went on to the cells. They were tiny as you can see. They used buckets as toilets until they closed it down in the 1970's. They were made to stay in the yard all day if they werent working, so rain or shine, thats where they were. The cells went up to 42.7 degrees in the summer and that was the cells on the ground floor. The cells on the top floor exceeded 50.
The convicts were banned from drawing on their walls, but in the year up to they closed it down, they allowed them to do so. Heres a picture in a cell.

One cell has been nicknamed the Porridge Room, after a prisoner was drawing on the walls and then covering them up with something of a porridgy consistence. This was only discovered recently when the cells were tidied up for visitors.
One prisoner was escaping so much that they made a special wooden cell for him. They said that if he managed to escape now, he would get a pardon. A while later this prisoner was in the yard and managed to escape. There was local uproar about the search for him and the local papers said he should receive his pardon, as, technically he did escape from his cell.
At another part of the prison is whats known as the death room. This is where the prisoners on death row were put. It took a meagre 45 seconds from when the prison guards tied his hands and feet and led him to the hanging room, the noose was out around his neck and he was dead. 45 seconds. I suppose you wouldnt want to be thinking too much in that time.
We also went to Kings Park in Perth. Its about 1000 acres or something, most of it bushland. We looked around for a while then left. It wasn't as good as Kowloon Park!!
As you may have heard we have bought a campervan. Here are some pictures. we are planning to go travelling very soon, maybe next week. I tried to do a three point turn in the car park but it was dark. Felt like i was driving a tank! Cheesy took over as a car was waiting. I'll give it another try soon (as soon as Cheesy lets me that is)
Sorry this is a bit of a boring post, more about the prison than anything else.
We also went to Perth Zoo for the day. It was good. Heres some pics.

I probably emailed a few of you about Wave Rock, so here are the pictures for that too.
We also went on a whale watching trip a few days ago. It was really nice weather and we saw some whales. There was a bout 10 of them in the end, maybe more, and we got to about 10 feet away from them. That was great! unortunately they didnt do any massive flips, but at least we saw them, sometimes theyre not around.!
Anyway, we are now going towards Broome, on Tuesday morning and stopping off everywhere along the way. If you dont hear from me for a couple of months, its because i'll have no signal or no money!!
Its pretty hot here now, so may be getting a tan soon. May find an internet cafe along the way so you'll probably get another blog sooner than later.
Take care everyone
love Shannon & Cheesy
PS sorry i would have added more pics but the pc wouldnt let me update my pictures so this is all i can give you for now.

Hi Non and Cheesy. Thanks for the update and allowing me to escape the dreary reality of paying bills, going to work and putting up with cold weather. Love Fran xxx
